The Victor Blue Devil fans and family saw six of their seniors sign National Letters of Intent in a ceremony on Tuesday. Three of the six (Camron Hay, Joey Pezzimenti and Regan Endres) will attend Albany, Alec Russell will attend Le Moyne, Shea Newell will be off to Mercyhurst and Cam Germain will attend St. Bonaventure.

The Hilton Cadets saw three of their seniors sign National Letters of Intent in a ceremony at school on Thursday. Austin Holley who returns to Hilton this season will go to St. Bonaventure. Attackman Zach Boyatzies will be off to Mercyhurst and Ben Mitrano who also plays in the attack will be moving on to Marist.

For the seventh time and after a brief absence, Section Five Lacrosse leadership has selected first, second and honorable mention lists of All-Section players. The 2019 first team lists fifteen players and includes the six All-Americans previously announced."It`s always difficult to choose from so many talented players," said Section Five Chairman, Mike Simon.

# 2957  2019 Senior All-Star Games

The Rochester Chapter of USLacrosse recently announced the 2019 Herb Fitch Lacrosse All Star Game player selections. This year's contest, featuring some of the best of the graduating seniors will be held on Thursday, June 13th at Victor High School. The boys' game will start at 6:00 PM and the girls' play at 8:00 PM.

The All Tournament Teams for 2018 were announced at each final on Tuesday and Wednesday. The Most Valuable Player in Class A was Colin Peers (Fairport), in Class C, Sam Miller (Geneva), in Class D, Connor Fingar (Penn Yan) and in Class B, Jack LaRue (Victor). Players were selected on the basis of their performances in the Section Five Tournaments.

The All Star list is out recognizing the Monroe County League players for the 2019 season. Senior  defenseman Sutton Boland (Victor), senior attackman Jack Brennan (Irondequoit) and senior face off midfielder Shawn Fingar (Hilton) were named US Lacrosse All Americans from Monroe County.

*+The Head Coaches of Section Five recently considered players who had been nominated for All-American and All-Academic awards. The awards, sponsored by US Lacrosse, identify some of the best players from each area around the country. Each of the Head Coaches in the section is allowed to vote on each of the awards.

# 2927  Victor Wins their Sixth Straight Championship

Victor secured their sixth straight Section Five Title with two goals in the final sixty seconds.  The Braves had taken a two goals lead with less than six minutes remaining and held on to a one goal lead with 1:00 left on the clock.  The Blue Devils never gave up and defeated Canandaigua 7-6 in regulation.  The game was a defensive battle with both goalies coming up strong.  Canandaigua’s Aiden Kenyon finished with 9 saves (7 in the first half) and Victor’s Liam Haller finished with 14 saves (including 5 in the fourth quarter).  Both goalies were named to the All Tournament Team.

# 2916  Canandaigua Heads to Finals for First Time Since 2017

In the first quarter, the scoring was limited with Thomas adding the lone goal.  Ryan Prine scored off a dodge along the right side to near the crease.  He finished into the net to put the Titans up with 4:31 remaining.  The Titans held that lead into the end of the quarter (1-0).  In the second quarter, Canandaigua added all the goals while holding Thomas scoreless.  There were three goals for the Braves.  The first two began with drives from behind the cage.  Tyler Goode drove from behind and after the slide, dropped the ball off to Aaron D’Agostino for a cross crease goal.  Two minutes later, they scored on another drive from behind.  This time, Mark Belles drove from behind and finished himself to give the Braves their first lead of the game.  The third goal came only 20 seconds later.  After a technical face-off win, the Braves quickly pushed the ball upfield and Casey Herod fed the ball to Dom Comella for the goal.  Canandaigua held the 3-1 lead going into halftime.  Between a patient Thomas offense and a strong Canandaigua defense, the Titans only put one shot on the cage (the goal) in the entire first half.

Saturday: DAY IN REVIEW: Fairport defeated Jamsville-DeWitt for the second straight season with a 10-9 win in the first overtime period. Colin Peers scored his third goal of the afternoon to give the Red Raiders the victory. Over the past eleven years, JD and Fairport have faced off once a year. The Rams were on a five year streak before the Red Raiders defeated them last year 14-12.

# 2857  Stuver Scores the Final Four Goals to Give Fairport the Win

Fairport took an early lead and then held off Canandaigua to defeat the Braves 9-6.  The Red Raiders scored the final two goals in the last minute with empty net goals after the Braves pulled their goalie in an attempt to get the ball back.  Klay Stuver (who scored both empty net goals) led his team with 4g-1a.  Goalie Tim Defendis finished with 11s/6ga (65%) for the Red Raiders.

Canandaigua scored four goals in the final quarter to secure a 6-5 victory over Thomas.  The Titans played a strong early game, but in the second half, they struggled offensively as they were scoreless for twenty minutes spanning from 0:47 seconds into the third until just under 3 minutes left in regulation.

Tuesday: DAY IN REVIEW: There were two games scheduled and only one and a half played today. At Canandaigua Academy, the Braves went right to work, outscoring the Panthers 5-1 in the first and 7-3 in the second quarter. After that, Geneva was held scoreless in the second half while Canandaigua added six more. Nine players made the Braves offensive list which ws led by Tyler Goode (3g-2a) and Mark Belles (2g-3a). Matt Bierhile won 14 of 19 face-offs and Aiden Kenyon made five saves (63%). Sam Miller led the Panther scoring with 2g. Canandaigua (6-1) will play Thomas on Thursday. Geneva (5-2) will play Greece on Saturday.

# 1410  Week in Review: Week 8

The regular season ended on Friady with four of the five games played having an impact of the tournament seeding. Fairport, for example, played Corning and earned a 75% season with their win. Everyone team that played Fairport this year earned additional points toward seeding with that win. The Tournament seeding was released on Friday night and the games will begin on May 21st. Three hundred and eight games have been played thus far. Seventy out of Section games have been played. Section five teams have won forty-nine (70%). Victor, Thomas, HF-L, Gananda and McQuaid Jesuit ended the season at the top of their leagues.

Thursday: DAY IN REVIEW: With only five games left in the regular season eight games were played today. Canandaigua (9-7) had eight players on the offensive book as they defeated Pal-Mac (10-6). Mark Belles had 2g-2a for the Braves. Geneva (10-6) was a 12-5 victor over visiting Greece Dugan Doeblin scored five goals and senior goalie Jacob Drennen finished with 11 saves (73%) for the Panthers. After a close half which saw Thomas (14-2) ahead 4-3, the Titans took control in their victory 11-5 over Pittsford (8-8).

# 1405  Canandaigua Over Hilton, McQ Wins GRALL Title

Tuesday: DAY IN REVIEW: With a 13-9 win over Aquinas, McQuaid Jesuit (12-3) won the GRALL Championship tonight. Aquinas took an early lead, but the Knights came back to a 3-3 tie by then end of the first quarter and then never lost the lead. Ryan McEvily led with 4g-1a and Jack Bilitier added 3g. Jon Gaglio made 12 saves for McQuaid Jesuit including 7 in the second Quarter. McQuaid Jesuit ends the regular season with a 12-3 record.

# 1401  Penfield and Canandaigua Win

Friday: DAY IN REVIEW: Section Five picked up two more out of section wins against Section 6 teams tonight as Canandaigua beat Hamburg 9-4 and Penfield beat West Seneca East 16-7. Junior attackman Jack Johnson started the scoring in Canandaigua and finsihed with 3g-1a. Mark Belles, also a junior attackman added 1g-3a for the Braves.

Fairport scored six of the last eight goals to defeat Canandaigua 8-5.  The Red Raiders consistently scored two goals in each quarter; while the Braves scored 4 goals in the second quarter and the final goal of the match.  Fairport scored the opening two goals of the first quarter while their defense held the Braves scoreless for 13 minutes.

# 1350  Burley Scores Game Winning Goal in Second OT

After a game that was tied at every step, Senior Alex Burley scored his fourth goal in the second overtime period to give Canandaigua their second overtime win of the season over Pittsford 7-6.  The Braves improve to 3-1 after their overtime wins vs. Penn Yan last week and Pittsford this week.  Burley was key in their victory, scoring both the game tying and game winning goals.

Friday: DAY IN REVIEW: It's been a busy vactation week for the Canandaigua Braves as they folowed at Win at Geneva with a win over Penn Yan in overtime tonight. Pal-Mac traveled to Erie, PA for a 19-9 win against Erie McDowell and McQuaid won in Maryland.

# 1338  Schroeder Defeats Canandaigua for First Time Since 2003

Schroeder scored the final four goals of the game to defeat Canandaigua 8-5.  The Warriors led for the majority of the game after a strong start and finish.  The Braves stayed in the game late into the third quarter; however, the Warriors held them scoreless in the final 17 minutes to secure the win.  This is first time that Schroeder has defeated Canandaigua since 2003.

Victor won their fourth consecutive (and sixth overall) Section Five Title tonight with a 13-4 win over Canandaigua.  The Blue Devils have reached the finals five straight times, with their loss four years ago against Canandaigua in overtime 11-10 (HERE).  Tonight, the Blue Devils scored the first five goals and continued to hold at minimum a four goal lead the remainder of the game.

# 1250  Andrews Leads CA and Sets School Record

May 27, 2017 - Third seeded Canandaigua scored the first three goals of the game and never trailed in their 16-8 win over tenth seeded Churchville-Chili.  After defeating the seventh (Ath/Ody) and second (Thomas) seeds, the Saints fell to the Braves.  Churchville-Chili kept the game close for a half, before Canandaigua held them scoreless in the third quarter and extending their lead to 12-5.

Canandaigua handed Victor their second loss of the season 8-5.  They took off in the second half, outscoring Victor 7-2 in the last 24 minutes.  Victor has won the last 5 times that they have faced the Braves, with Canandaigua’s last win coming in May of 2013 to win the Sectional Title in overtime.

DAY IN REVIEW: Canandaigua saw four lead changes but managed to win their game with Brother Rice from Michigan (5-3). Devin Andrews (2g-1a) scored the winning goal with 4:09 left in regulation. Mark Belles scored 3g and Mitch Pfeiffer added 1g-2a for the Braves (6-2). Tim Rice made 10s (71%) and Brandon Moore recorded 6s (67%) for CA.

Kessel Stefano scored this second goal in a row to give the Eagles a 12-11 win over Canandaigua.  He scored with 0:09 remaining in regulation.  The first half was back and forth with both teams leading.
